Preface

Kudos go to the PARENTS of our Kinderchor members. If it wasn’t for their dedication, hard work, and their love for the German Culture in Music, this tour would have remained a dream.

It all started about six years ago after an invitation to sing in Columbus went kaput. That year about $5,000 was raised to send the Kinderchor to Columbus, OH. The parents worked hard raising that money and they weren’t going to just let it set there.

History Comments Off

The Kinderchor has been in existence for nearly sevety years, but its roots stretch still farther back. The nineteenth and early twentieth centuries brought a wave of immigrants from Germany to the United States of America. They brought with them their cherished possessions, including their love for the Arts, especially their love of music. As a result, many singing societies were formed. Read the rest of this entry »

Über uns Comments Off

For nearly seventy years, the German-American Children’s Chorus of Chicago (the Kinderchor) has been celebrating the rich heritage of German culture and song while fostering a love for our home, the United States of America. Any child, regardless of ethnicity, may join the chorus.

Under the capable leadership of Director Carol Himmel, fifty children between the ages of four and fourteen have melted the hearts of audiences throughout the Chicago area with their enthusiastic performances. During a recent tour of Germany, audiences were thrilled to see children in traditional costumes singing their beloved folk songs.

The children perform German and English songs at a variety of functions throughout the year. Our annual Christmas and Mother’s Day concerts are co-hosted by the German-American Singers of Chicago. Rehearsals are held September through May at the Wilson Park fieldhouse, 4600 N. Milwaukee Ave in Chicago, Saturday mornings from 10 to 11:30.
